As part of the works concerning the spaces of the Museum and Exhibition Hub of Villa Colloredo Mels, within the broader investment programme envisaged by the “Infinito Recanati” project, the entire exhibition layout will be reorganized, with a redefinition of the display route for the permanent section.

The new display

In addition to a new labeling system for the works in the permanent section, a new display is planned for the two Lotto rooms and for the section of archaeological and ceramic finds. Alongside the consistency of the display, a graphic identity will be created according to criteria of uniformity and recognizability across the entire image of the system of assets and services. New coordinated graphics will allow residents and tourists to perceive all the spaces — which often struggle to convey a unified image — as parts of a single museum and tourist circuit.

The first phase, to be completed by 2017, defines the re-display of the rooms housing the four works by Lorenzo Lotto and the two adjoining rooms. For the Annunciation and the St. James the Greater, a single support is planned for both the work and the lighting system. This wooden support will be able to fulfil several functions: it becomes a backdrop for the work, visually enclosing it within a well-defined space and allowing for better readability and enhancement; at the same time it acts as a deterrent at the bottom, keeping visitors at a due distance, and as a support for the lighting system at the top, guaranteeing the ideal distance and angle for the LED spotlights that will give the works new light. In the adjoining room, given their size, the Polyptych of St. Dominic and the Transfiguration will receive a dedicated display, with materials and finishes matching the previous room, but with different supports. This consists of a combination of self-supporting metal elements that embrace the two works without touching them, and wooden infills that act as bases, fitting into the existing support structures. This approach allows us to avoid touching or moving the two works, maximising cost and time efficiency.
