Former “Grottino” area, tourist hub
The Final/Executive Design aims to engineer the intervention planned as part of the works of the 4th PERFORMANCE LOT (Redevelopment works of the Park's access areas and construction of the tourist reception centre) within the framework of the Recovery and Redevelopment intervention of the “Colle dell'Infinito” Park, 2nd FUNCTIONAL LOT, 2018 annuity.
The project is divided into several interventions:
2.1 Info point and refreshment area
The redevelopment of the existing structures involves, in compliance with the PPSC (Park's Site Plan), Building Renovation (Art. 24), given that the structures in question lack typological references and are of negligible value.
The project elements will retain the existing volumes and footprint, as well as the intended use serving the community and tourists.
The main building is a pure, minimalist volume in iron and glass, focused on transparency as the defining element of a dialogue between interior and exterior, and between structure and context.
Inside this transparent volume we find a tourist information service and a bar/refreshment area.
The secondary building is a small technical volume, again with an iron structure infilled with stretched metal mesh, on which climbing plants will grow to mitigate and conceal its presence. Inside, the equipment serving the info point will be housed.
2.2 Public restrooms
The small existing structure within the Parco Letterario avenue, used as public restrooms (fig. 04), dating from the 1950s and lacking architectural value, requires renovation and upgrading work to ensure code-compliant accessibility for people with disabilities.
The main facade will be clad with a second skin in iron and glass that will allow the old elevation to still be read, while at the same time aligning its formal appearance with the new installation.
Characterizing the new intervention, with the task of connecting the various functions, is a metal pergola with a semi-transparent roof, again in stretched sheet metal, acting as a brise-soleil.
2.3 Path and access system
The value and importance of the intervention are tied to the inevitable redevelopment of the path and tourist parking system; to this end, the administration's intention is to enhance the “ex Grottino” area by giving the place greater breathing room, creating a system of pedestrian paths that, starting from the wall facing Via Colle dell'Infinito, downhill, leads all the way to Porta Nuova.
The existing accesses of the Nerina staircase will also be enhanced, highlighting its entrance and improving the legibility of the ramp itself from the square; while the new access to the Parco Letterario avenue will gain prominence, highlighted by the new intervention on the existing public restrooms and the new paving.
A related reorganization of traffic flow will allow tourist bus stops, facilitating both the exchange of vehicles for access to the historic centre and stopping in the small square for the flow of tourists who need initial information and refreshment before proceeding on foot toward the Leopardi sites.

The materials and finishes used for the structures and outdoor arrangements draw reference from the local context.
The contemporary-character building, simple and minimal in form, will act as a catalyzing element: where previously stood an agglomeration of heterogeneous elements, both in form and materials, we now find an organic system that gives completeness to the place, unites the various services and guides visitors toward the different functions.

The outdoor arrangements — low walls, pavements, the square — call for the use of materials customarily used in Recanati's historic fabric: travertine kerbs, paving in slabs alternated with sandstone setts, and exposed-brick low walls.
Targeted infill panels serving a screening and shading function will be made with stretched sheet metal in the same burnished finish, and will sometimes act as a support for climbing plants.
