Domus di via dell’ Abbondanza

The archaeological area of Via dell'Abbondanza was inaugurated to the public on August 25, 2015; here one can see the remains of a luxurious and richly decorated manor house from the early imperial age. The area was turned into a museum, becoming part of the city's institutional cultural offering; the project is the result of the work of: the Soprintendenza Archeologia delle Marche, the Municipality of Pesaro / Department for Beauty, and Sistema Museo. Access as broad as possible and engaging visitor experience are the guiding principles of this intervention, in which multimedia installations bring history back to life and offer an exciting visit experience for everyone. The finds unearthed during the excavation are displayed inside two display cases dedicated to the Roman era and to the medieval and Renaissance phases: ceramics, oil lamps and everyday objects. Of particular importance is the head of a small sleeping terracotta Eros, the graphic symbol of the domus and of 'archaeological Pesaro'. A major impact is provided by the virtual tour, a true one-of-a-kind in the Marche region: on the building's reinforced-concrete walls, three-dimensional reconstructions of the domus's ancient rooms are projected, allowing visitors to reconstruct scenes of everyday life and to 'immerse' themselves in the atmosphere of Roman-era Pisaurum. The route for the visually impaired — with braille panels and tactile models — was developed in collaboration with the scientific team of the Museo Tattile Statale 'Omero' in Ancona.
